What to see?

Halfway between the and the mountains and a short distance away from Baccelona and Girona, the county of Osona offers a range of attractions that are well worth a visit.

Osona enjoys a natural heritage rich in contrasts and with wonderful beauty spots. Four natural areas stand out in particular for their scenic, ecological and cultural importance: El Parc Natural del Montseny, La Vall de Sau-Collsacabra, with its imposing cliffs, the Landscapes of the Ter, the romanic cons- tructions of El Lluçanés and Vic capital of the county.

The area is also well-known for its gastronomy, based on excellent local produce. It is a land of festivals, fairs and markets steeped in tradition.

Therefore, Osona is a place where every visitor can find what they are looking for and enjoy a unique area.

Sant Pere de Casserres

Located at the heights of a peninsula encircled by the meander formed by the River Ter, the monastery of Casserres ia an ancient Benedictine monastic construction. For many years it was abandoned and suffered significant degradation. After successive reconstructions, however, it is today possible to visit a complete Romanesque monastery.



In a unique setting marked by the reservoir and the Parador de Sau at the entry to Les Guilleries.
The different areas that can be toured of this magnificent space, fully transport us to and locate us in the period of Osona's monastic medieval life.

The area of Bisaura occupies the municipalities located in northern Osona, notable for its landscapes of great beauty.

The value of its landscape has led many areas to became part of the Espai d'Interès Natural ( Area of Natural Interest) in the mountain ranges of Milany-Santa Magdalena and Puigsacalm-Bellmunt.

We specially recommended the beautiful town of Vidrà, l'Espai d'interès Natural del Parc del Castell de Montesquiu, The Sanctuary of la Mare de Déu de Bellmunt an excellent and privileged vantage point of the region and the waterfall known as the Salt del Mir, in Santa Maria de Besora, where the water falls from a height of 30 meters into a basin surrounded by walls of stone.

El Moianés- l'Estany - The Toll caves

El Moinés, a tradicional destination for hillwalkers, has rich network of singposted tracks. La Ronda del Moianès , a marvellous round trip for walkers or on bicycle.

The monastery of L'Estany was founded in 1.080. It includes the church of Santa Maria, and a number of other buildings which have now been converted into a museum, together they comprise a jewel of the Catalan Romanesque.

A great part of the extraordinary value of this site lies in its 72 magnificently sculpted and well preserved capitals.

The Toll caves are one of the most important prehistoric sites in Catalonia. The site consist of a set of cavities almost two kilometres in length. Some of these served to house animals and some were lived in by humans from a least 100,000 years BC.

Landscapes of the Ter

One of the features that determines the natural and historical landscape of the region is the fact that the middle section of the river Ter crosses though the territory.

In Osona as a whole, the Ter describes up to 19 meanders in just over 25 Km. By this we mean looping changes of direction in the river flow, one of this meanders encircles Sant Pere de Casserres.



Which over time and though human intervention, have led to creation of landscape of dams, mills, factories, canals, smokestacks, industrial estates... Have all made the water of the river an important source of wealth for this zone of the region.

We recommended to visit the Museu Industrial del Ter in Manlleu and La colonia industrial de Borgonya in Sant Vicenç de Torelló.

Portes del Montseny

Portes del Montseny is an area of varied appearance from the flat to the heights. El Montseny Natural Park preserves the natural values ,
Unesco declared it a Biosphere Reserve Park.

This was one of the first parts of Catalonia in which the Romanesque appeared, as reflected in the churches of Sant Martí del Brull.

Some hills are crowned with castles, such as Centelles, Tona and Taradell.

In this area you can visit, the Sanctuary of la Mare de Déu de Puiglagulla, south vantage point and the Puigsagordi , the zone is very popular with climbers, above all on the route of the Baumes corcades.

More than 2000 years of history have left a significant historical, artistic and architectural legacy. The centre, of medieval origin, preserves several exemples of this heritage. Visitors strolling along its narrow winding streets can see superb examples of sorts of arcitectural styles.
Tuesdays and Saturdays have been market days in Vic's main square since olden times, we recommend it to you!

El Lluçanés

El Lluçanès has many small chapels and hermitages, notably the complex of Santa Maria de LLuçà , as well as the collection of Baroque altarpieces of Sant Boi de Lluçanès.
We recommended to visit The sanctuary of La Mare de Dèu dels Munts, it is located at some 1.000 m. in altitude, and has become an ample vantage point of El Lluçanès.



Natural spaces surrounding streams such as the Merlès or the Gavarresa offer enchanting spots, springs and gorges.

In Sant Feliu Sasserra you can visit el Centre d'interpretació de les Bruixes.

Les Guilleries-Savassona

The sub-region of Les Guilleries is located in the east of the region, forming a bridge between Collsacabra and Montseny.

Historically it has been a forested zone with little population, wich has given these lands a legendary and misterious air related to banditry and witchcraft.



Les Guilleries are, winding lands of low mountains filled with forest and small towns. Forest of holm oaks, oaks and beeches predominate. In Viladrau forests explotation also accurs in relation to chestnuts and Espinelves, with its explotations of pines and firs, and its popular fie tree fair in december.

Sau- Collsacabra

The force of nature can be seen in the Vall de Sau-Collsacabra in the form of a complex relief: scarps of an average of 1,100 metres high.

The Sau Reservoir, at Vilanova de Sau, is a water sports paradise. Nearby, Tavertet and the scarps bear witness to 5,000 years of history.

Rupit and Pruit together form a single municipality in Osona,they have preserved its attractive medieval style.


whose architectural wealth takes visitors back in time as they wander cobblestone streets that pass rustic houses, Romanesque churches, a wooden bridge and the Can Badaire stone bridge. When you visit Rupit , it is essencial to visit the Salt del Sallent, which has a height of 100 meters.

The Salt del Cabrit and the Salt de la foradada are remarkable, both located within municipal limits of Santa Maria del Corcó-L'Esquirol.

The Cliffs of Tavertet

Tavertet , located on the cliffs of the Collsacabra area, is a town with a unique landscape, the product of its spectacular surroundings.

The elevated altitude of the site, combined with a singular natural space, makes the setting and views attractive and majestic.




The sense of beauty, peace and calm produced by the views has made the town a pleasant , tranquil and much admired place.

From the town centre, made up of small houses, the views open up to great crags, cliffs and precipices that end, for example, over the River Ter and the reservoir of Sau. Its altitude offers a broad and generous view of the entire county and is a magnificent place to hike.
